Song Lyrics

1. Butterflies and ladybirds

Verse 1
Kaleidoscope of butterflies flap their wings, take to the skies,
Perching on a buddleia with wings that gently beat.
(Gently beat, gently beat)

The loveliness of ladybirds gets eyed-up by some hungry birds.
Flies away not wanting to be eaten but to eat.

Verse 2
Then from their hive some busy bees swarm toward the blossom trees,
Searching for some nectar that will make their honey sweet.
(Honey sweet, honey sweet)

Whilst underground a clew of worms keeps wriggling through twists and turns,
Hides away from danger and avoids the children’s feet.

Verse 3
As daylight fades to pale grey night replaces sunny day,
Clouds of bats come swooping from their roost up in the eaves.
(In the eaves, in the eaves)

An urban fox comes skulking in and rifles through a rubbish bin,
Startled by a sudden noise he turns and quickly leaves.

2. Gorillas and monkeys

Picture
Picture
Chorus
Gorillas forming bands, see monkeys holding hands.
Trooping through the jungle in the rain.  (Oh yeah!)
Swinging through the trees , just doing as we please.
Waiting for the sun to shine again.

Verse 1
Lumbering around in search of food,
Swinging around by our tails so we don’t have to go near the ground.
Then we have a snooze at noon.
All of this chittering, chattering, nittering, nattering making a sound that’s so LOUD!
Every night we build a brand-new nest,
Finding bananas and tropical fruit all so juicy and round.
Sleep beneath the silv’ry moon.
Nat’rally naughty we love to play tricks on each other for fun and just monkey around!

Verse 2
Silver patch of hair shows who’s the boss,
Taking good care of each other and seeing to all of our needs.
Gentle hands but mighty chest.
Grooming and preening and plenty of cleaning until we are gleaming and free of all fleas!
I don’t want to fight to stay on top,
Soothed by the touch of a sister or brother we think you’ll agree,
Never put me to the test.
Being a monkey’s a wonderful, marvellous, glorious riot - it’s good to be me!

3. Rattlesnake rumba

Verse 1
I sound like a maraca when I rattle my tail,
I rattle my tail, I rattle my tail.
I sound like a maraca when I rattle my tail,
So, come join me, dance the rumba!

Verse 2                                                                                     Counter melody
I hiss when I am threatened and I rattle my tail,            I just love to rattle my tail ,
I rattle my tail, I rattle my tail.                                             To rattle my tail, I rattle!
I hiss when I am threatened and I rattle my tail,            And I just love to rattle my tail,
So come join me, dance the rumba!                               So, come join me dance the  rumba!

Verse 3
Counter melody
I’ll only try to bite you if you step on my tail,                  I’ll bite you, don’t step on my tail.
You step on my tail, you step on my tail.                        Don’t step on my tail, I’ll bite you!
I’ll only try to bite you if you step on my tail,                 I'll bite you, don’t step on my tail.
So come join me, dance the rumba!                               So come join me, dance the rumba
Ba ba!                                                                                      Ba ba!

4. Crocs basking

Verse 1
Crocs basking without blinking, snap jaws shut without thinking,
Devouring any creature that comes near.
Crocs basking without blinking, snap jaws shut without thinking,
Devouring any creature that comes near.

I’ll just open wide, open wide,
Open wide for you!  (You are my tea!)
Crocs basking without blinking, snap jaws shut without thinking,
Devouring any creature that comes near.

Verse 2
Crocs floating without sinking, snap jaws shut without winking,
Devouring any creature that comes near.
Crocs floating without sinking, snap jaws shut without winking,
Devouring any creature that comes near.

I’ll just open wide, open wide,
Open wide for you! (You are my tea!)
Crocs floating without sinking, snap jaws shut without winking,
Devouring any creature that comes near.
That comes near.

Verse 1
A flamboyance of flamingos stands watching as some hippos,
Crash mud-wards and towards the shallows creep...
A flamboyance of flamingos stands watching as some hippos,
Crash mud-wards and begin to wallow deep. (Deep)

Verse 2
An extravagance of feathers, they often dance together,
While lazy hippos gradually converge...
An extravagance of feathers, they often dance together,
While lazy hippos bathe and then submerge. (Merge)

Verse 3
An abundance of flamingos stands feeding, legs akimbo.
Avoiding grumpy hippos in the sun...
An abundance of flamingos stands feeding, legs akimbo.
As hippos have a mud bath just for fun! (Fun)

6. Giraffes and lions

.
Verse 1
Giraffes form a tower, they have height but lack the power,
To resist the pride of lions as they hunt.
Giraffes form a tower, they have height but lack the power,
To resist the pride of lions as they ROAR!

Chorus
‘Dusk till dawn, you can hear them yawn.
Sleep all day,  then as evening falls they wake up!
Lions gather round, you can hear the sound, of their mighty ROAR!

Verse 2
Giraffes chew and munch on leaves and branches for their lunch,
But must avoid the pride of lions as they sleep.
Giraffes chew and munch on leaves and branches for their lunch,
But must avoid the pride of lions as they snore.

‘Dusk till dawn, you can hear them yawn.
Sleep all day,  then as evening falls they wake up!
Lions gather round, you can hear the sound, of their mighty ROAR!

Verse 3
Giraffes roam around, taking care to make no sound,
That would disturb the pride of lions as they rest.
Giraffes roam around, taking care to make no sound,
That would disturb the pride of lions as they doze.

Chorus
‘Dusk till dawn,  you can hear them yawn,
Sleep all day, then as evening falls they wake up!

Lions gather round, you can hear the sound, of their mighty ROAR!

Giraffes form a tower, they have height but lack the power,
To resist the pride of lions as they ROAR!

7. Iguanas in a mess

Picture
Verse 1
I’m a lizard and I’m lounging in the forest canopy.
I like basking, so I’m asking: can’t you see
Why I don’t go near the ground where there’s danger to be found?
I’m a lizard and I’m lounging in a tree.

Chorus
Don’t mess with a mess of chilled iguanas,
Strong jaws, sharp teeth, tail like a whip.
Don’t mess with a mess of chilled iguanas,
Strong jaws, sharp teeth, tail like a whip.
Don’t mess!  Don’t mess!

Verse 2
I love living in the tropics ‘cause my blood runs cool.
I’m laid back, but I ain’t nobody’s fool.
Eyes as sharp as tacks, I’m safe from all attacks.
I love living in the tropics ‘cause I’m cool.

8. Hummingbirds and parrots

Hummingbirds that shimmer and shimmer.
Daylight growing dimmer and dimmer.

Pandemonium/Pandemonium

Pandemonium of parrots taking flight!

Hummingbirds that shimmer and shimmer.
Daylight growing dimmer and dimmer.

9. Spiders!

Picture
Verse 1
Spiders live in clusters and they really don't like dusters,
As they spin their silky web all day.
Spiders have such hairy legs, they like to live beneath your bed.

Chorus
If you close your eyes they’ll go away.
If you close your eyes to God and pray!
SPIDERS!

Hairy spiders always scurry, faster when they’re in a hurry,
How do they know where to go?
Tufty-haired with eyebrows furry, when they look it’s always blurry.
Who knows what they really see?

Chorus

Spiders get in ev’rywhere, they tip-toe slowly through your hair.
