‘A World of Wonder’ was written specifically to be used with Makaton, comprising two separate melodies that can be combined as partner songs. Signing can be used at a key-word or functional level making the resource adaptable to the needs of the singers inviting all learners to participate at their own level.
Originally developed in the UK, Makaton has benefitted millions of people with communication challenges across the world, offering a multi-modal, evidence-based approach using signs and symbols alongside speech.
Studies show Makaton enhances language acquisition and songs can be signed in order to teach and reinforce vocabulary and improve cognition and literacy. Makaton can serve as a bridge to understanding complex concepts allowing participants to access lyrical content and experience a deeper understanding of emotion through music.
